New solar-powered mobile phone

A new solar-powered mobile phone will hit the market as early as June this year for under $US40. The phone looks very much a ‘made in china’ phone but we thought we would feature this phone solely because its the first low cost solar powered mobile phone ever produced.

With a design you would get from a $2 shop, the Colar-200-Solar as it is called generates electricity from a single mini solar panel located on the back of the phone. The phone looks very cheap and it is at only $US40 you can get the phone outright.

The phone is produced by Chinese group ZTE and is targeted at people that don’t have access to electricity. This is no joke, there is about ‘two billion people who have limited or no access to electricity,’ said Wang Yong Zhong, general manager of ZTE.

Toshiba unvieled their new Snapdragon TG01 today. The mobile phone comes with Windows Mobile 6 plus all the connectivity options, including assisted GPS, Bluetooth v2.0, Wi-Fi and HSDPA/HSUPA 3G-based mobile broadband.

The phone is only 9.9mm making it slimmer then the iPhone 3G (12.3mm) and the Touch HD (12mm). It also has a 1Ghz processor, 4.1-inch touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel camera and the microSD card is expandable to 32GB’s.

This is going to be a serious competitor for the iPhone. Full specs and pricing will be released later this month.

Goldvish ‘Le Million’ Mobile Phone

Goldvish Le Million Limited Edition Mobile Phone

I know most of us would opt for a FREE handset on a 24 month contract so I thought this was worth mentioning. Goldvish, which are in the same class as Vertu currently hold the record for the most expensive mobile phone ever sold. Yep, it’s also published in the Guinness World Record Book so it’s official.

The ‘Le Million’ mobile phone designed by Emmanuel Gueit was sold to a Russian businessman for one million euros . The handmade mobile phone is made of 18-carat white gold, mounted with 120-carats of VVS-1 graded diamonds and is equipped with quad band GSM, GPRS and EDGE.

Not sure about the esthetics and more fit for a pimp then a businessman but who cares when you’ve got the money for one of these, right!
