Uysse Nardin’ Chairman Smart Phone’s are not covered in diamonds or dipped in gold but they sure place great emphasis on beautiful craftmanship.

Celebrated Swiss vanguard watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has partnered with the European firm, SCI Innovations, to create the world’s first hybrid smart phone called the ‘Chairman’. This smart phone pairs cutting-edge kinetic technology with the pedigree of the 163-year-old timepiece innovator. While details are limited, it has been confirmed that the Chairman will be able to use any mobile phone service provider in the world and includes several components never seen before in a smart phone.

It will incorporate a Ulysse Nardin designed kinetic rotor system which is blended into the mechanical and aesthetical design of the smart phone. This smart-phone is hand-assembled under the strictest guidelines mandated by Ulysse Nardin.

With the Sony brand attached to their phones I expected a lot more from a design point of view but then again Ericsson have never really made any spectacular looking phones. I’m just thinking back to when the T28 was out and Nokia had their 8100 so called banana phone.

However, it looks like Ericsson has decided to let Sony look after the design aspects of the phone. In 2010, Sony will unveil The Idou. Strange name but its just a code name until they give it a proper name next year. The phone looks sleek and has a more Sony look and feel to it.

The phone will have a 12 megapixel camera with Xenon flash. The screen is a massive 3.5 inches with a 16:9 aspect ratio. These are only official specs that we know and things may be added or changed when the phone is released in 2010.

You can read more about the Idou here

A new solar-powered mobile phone will hit the market as early as June this year for under $US40. The phone looks very much a ‘made in china’ phone but we thought we would feature this phone solely because its the first low cost solar powered mobile phone ever produced.

With a design you would get from a $2 shop, the Colar-200-Solar as it is called generates electricity from a single mini solar panel located on the back of the phone. The phone looks very cheap and it is at only $US40 you can get the phone outright.

The phone is produced by Chinese group ZTE and is targeted at people that don’t have access to electricity. This is no joke, there is about ‘two billion people who have limited or no access to electricity,’ said Wang Yong Zhong, general manager of ZTE.

I know most of us would opt for a FREE handset on a 24 month contract so I thought this was worth mentioning. Goldvish, which are in the same class as Vertu currently hold the record for the most expensive mobile phone ever sold. Yep, it’s also published in the Guinness World Record Book so it’s official.

The ‘Le Million’ mobile phone designed by Emmanuel Gueit was sold to a Russian businessman for one million euros . The handmade mobile phone is made of 18-carat white gold, mounted with 120-carats of VVS-1 graded diamonds and is equipped with quad band GSM, GPRS and EDGE.

Not sure about the esthetics and more fit for a pimp then a businessman but who cares when you’ve got the money for one of these, right!
