ICE Hotel in Sweden

ICE Hotel in Sweden

The ICE Hotel is situated in a small village called Jukkas, 200 kms north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden. The heart and backbone of this village is the River Torne which flows freely through the unspoilt wilderness. During winter, the ice gets to a metre thick and is used as a source for all the art, architecture and design.

The rooms are decorated with ice art and sculptures. The website quotes ‘You sleep in a thermal sleeping bag on a special bed of snow and ice, on reindeer skins. You are awakened in the morning with a cup of hot lingonberry juice at your bedside.’

If you want to know how cold the rooms get, then try between -5 °C to -8 °C degrees. Be prepared to dress in warm thermal underwear and a hat and enjoy the experience of the Artic weather indoors with someone special.

Make sure you book in advance as most weekends are already fully booked. The prices range from £90 ($180) to £250 ($500) a night.

Sleep with headphones in your pillow

Sound Asleep Pillow

The unique pillow not only provides comfort with its hollowfibre filling but it includes a built in speaker. Now you may think why has it taken so long for someone to come up with the idea. Believe it or not, in 1984 a similar product was available but it was disontinued after people complained about the speakers digging into their heads whilst they were sleeping

The specially designed pillow allows only sounds to reach the person intended, allowing you to listen to your favourite tunes without having to wake up your partner.

The pillow has been said to help people with tinnitus and insomnia as they can create a background noise which can help them get to sleep. The sound pillow has a number of other uses such as listening to audio books or learning a foreign language, relaxation or self-help tracks, additional comfort whilst listening to music or the television in bed without disturbing your partner. It’s also ideal to take on long journeys for a comfortable source of entertainment, in the car, train or plane.

Audio to the pillow is via a 3.5mm stereo jack which is available on most devices such as your iPod. The pillow can be brought from Sound Asleep for £20 or $40.

The Enlightment Bookshelf Lamp The Enlightment Bookshelf Lamp

Many people come up with bright ideas and this is definitely one of them. The Enlightenment Bookshelf Lamp is made out of plexiglass and fits perfectly into any bookshelf.  The lamp uses a enery-saver globe and when lit up the word ‘The Enlightment’ can be seen at the front and on the binding.  The lamp cost $130 but 10% goes to education projects run by the Edukans Foundation.
